You see, this is the kind of logic that makes states pass decible limit laws.
Here's the flaw with the argument: Other vehicles surround their riders with hundreds of pounds of metal while strapping them into a frame to prevent them from flying through the air. Motorcycles are inherently more dangerous and because of that , we riders must do everything in our power to inform the half asleep drivers of this world that we are out there, and prefer not to be killed.
If you look at the statistics, most motorcycle accidents involving an automobile could have been avoided by the AUTOMOBILE driver if they had only taken the time to look and see the rider.
People in cars forget that they are riding in a huge metal bullet. For the most part, there is no reason for the auto driver to be careful any more. They don't see themselves as a threat to others. But, what is the leading cause of accidents in the u.s.?
A moments inattention.
SO, in an effort to thwart that moment, get loud pipes so that the morons on Lake SHore Drive in their B.M.W.'s talking on their cell phone actually takes a second to notice that you are there.
'nuff said.
Besides, my grey lump of meat between my ears has figured out that since installing loud pipes, my life has been saved at least 10 times.
